Dodge City softball remained unbeaten in conference play, making it 14 wins in the win column out of the last 16 games played with a sweep of Pratt, winning 15-7 in six innings and 6-0.
The Conquistadors, with the victories, improved to 20-8 on the season and 6-0 in KJCCC action. The Conqs also moved to 13-1 at home and stretched their win streak over Pratt to 10-straight games.
Conference play continues to heat up for the Conqs as they take on Hutchinson on the road on Wednesday, March 18th, and then host Butler on Saturday, March 21st.
Game 1 – Won 15-7 vs Pratt (6 innings)
The day opened with some adversity for the Conqs as Pratt batted around in the first inning and took advantage of two walks, a hit batter, two Conq errors, and had two hits to score four runs. The Conqs got a run back in the first with a solo home run by
Jordyn Boxberger, but trailed 4-1 after the first inning. Pratt extended their lead in the third with a pair of runs to go up 6-1, but the Conqs tallied two on a two RBI single by
Kloe Nelson and then scored two more in the fourth to make it a one-run game. A solo home run by Pratt put them up 7-5 entering the bottom of the fifth when the Conqs, for the third straight inning, scored a pair of runs this time to tie the game at 7-7. RBI singles by
Riley Moore and
Cadie McCracken drew the Conqs even in the fifth. After holding Pratt off the scoreboard in the top of the sixth, the Conqs blasted the game wide open, batting around in the bottom of the sixth, scoring eight on the way to the run-rule win of 15-7. RBI doubles by
Sophie Faidley and
Karen Galaviz, along with a grand slam from McCracken, highlighted the inning.
Conqs again had another big offensive performance with 16 hits with five players having a multi-hit game.
Harley Shoaf was 3-3 with three runs scored, a double, a triple, and a walk, while
Karli George went 3-4 with a double and a walk. Nelson added a 2-4 performance with three RBI and a run scored. McCracken finished with a. 2-3 outing with five RBI, a grand slam, a walk, and two runs scored. Moore chipped in a 2-4 game with two runs scored, an RBI, and a walk.
In relief,
Avery McCloskey threw 3.2 innings, giving up just one run on three hits and four walks, with two strikeouts, to earn the win.
Game 2 – Won 6-0 vs PrattÂ
The second game of the day was a lot quieter on the scoreboard as it was scoreless through four innings of action. The Conqs managed just four base runners over the first four innings, while Pratt had some scoring opportunities with seven base runners. In the bottom of the fifth, the Conqs got things rolling as they batted around, scoring five runs in the frame on four hits and a walk.
Loren Sweat notched a two-RBI double, and Nelson followed with an RBI double to highlight the five-run fifth. The sixth saw Faidley belt a solo home run to give the Conqs a 6-0 advantage, and the Conqs shut the door on the game in the seventh, securing the 6-0 victory.
Faidley paced the Conqs offense with a 3-3 performance, recording a home run, a run scored, an RBI, and a double. Sweat added a 2-3 outing with a run scored, a double, and two RBI.
In the circle, George tossed 4.1 innings as the starter, giving no runs on four hits and five walks, with two strikeouts, and took a no-decision. McCloskey came in and finished the game, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings of relief for the win, giving up just two hits and striking out four. The shutout is the eighth of the season for the Conqs.
