Dodge City softball returned to the win column in dominant fashion on Wednesday at home, sweeping Fort Hays Tech Northwest 15-0 and 14-1 in a pair of run-rule victories.
The Conquistadors improved to 16-8 on the season and 4-0 in KJCCC. The wins also give the Conqs 20 in a row over Fort Hays Tech Northwest in the series, with 16 coming by run rule.
The Conqs are back in action on Thursday, March 12th, as they host Dakota College at Bottineau for a non-conference doubleheader.
Game 1 – Won 15-0 vs Fort Hays Tech Northwest
The Conqs limited Tech to just two base runners in the first game of the day as
Jordyn Boxberger and
Karli George combined for a five-inning no-hitter. The scoring started on the day for the Conqs in the second when
Sophie Faidley belted a three-run homer. In the third, the Conqs batted around scoring nine runs on six hits, four walks, a hit batter, and a Tech error.
Loren Sweat had an RBI triple, and Boxberger added a 2 RBI triple in the third inning. Conqs tacked on three more runs in the fourth, highlighted by an RBI single from
Riley Moore, and went on to secure the 15-0 victory.
Boxberger earned the win in the circle, tossing a perfect three innings facing the minimum without giving up a run, hit, or walk, while striking out five. George tossed the final two innings, giving up just a pair of walks.
Sweat,
Kloe Nelson, and Faidley each had a multi-hit game to pace the Conqs' offense, which had 10 hits in the contest. Faidley was 2-2 with four RBI, a home run, and two runs scored, while Sweat went 2-2 with two runs scored, a double, and an RBI. Nelson also went 2-2 with two runs scored and a double.
Game 2 – Won 14-1 vs Fort Hays Tech Northwest
The Conqs took control early in game two, plating two runs in the first inning, sending seven to the plate as George drove in two with a double. George drove in two more with a single in the second to double the Conqs lead to 4-0. In the third, the Conqs batted around scoring seven runs, highlighted by a two RBI double from Cameron Moses, a two RBI single by
Dezarae Schmidt, and an RBI infield single by
Kaylee Kinsinger. Tech managed a run in the top of the fourth on a solo home run, but the Conqs responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Shyann Clark and the Conqs' defense set Tech down in order in the fifth to cap the game at 14-1.
Conqs offense pounded out 14 hits in the win, led by Kinsinger, who was 3-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Five more Conqs had two hits each in the game, including George, who was 2-2 with a run scored, four RBI, a double, and two walks, while Moses was 2-2 with three RBI, a run scored, and a double. Moore finished 2-4 with three runs scored, a double, and an RBI, while Schmidt went 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Dancia Miller added a 2-4 game with an RBI.
Avery McCloskey tossed the first two innings facing the minimum recording three strikeouts, while
Shyann Clark capped the game tossing the final three innings giving up just one run on three hits and a walk, with four strikeouts.
