Dodge City softball controlled the day in a doubleheader sweep of Otero, outscoring the Rattlers 27-0 in two games, with 23-0 and 4-0 victories.
The pair of wins for the Conquistadors moves them to 8-6 on the season.
They will travel to La Junta, Colorado, on Sunday, March 1st, to take on Otero again as non-conference play continues.
Game 1 – Won 23-0 vs Otero (5 innings)
The game started off quietly as the Conqs set Otero down in order in the first two innings and only had an infield single and walked themselves in the first two innings. In the bottom of the third, the Conqs had an offensive explosion, batting around twice in the inning and scoring 14 runs on eight hits and eight walks.
Riley Moore recorded an RBI double and an RBI single in the inning, while
Harley Shoaf had a two RBI triple,
Sophie Faidley,
Jordyn Boxberger, and
Avery McCloskey each recorded an RBI single in the frame. The offense continued to roll in the fourth as the Conqs once again batted around, scoring nine on eight hits, including a two-run home run by Moore. Conqs shut the door on the game in the top of the fifth to secure the 23-0 victory.
Conqs pounded out 17 hits and drew 12 walks in the contest to cruise to the game one win. Three Conqs had a three-hit game, with two more recording a pair of hits each. Moore finished 3-4 with three runs scored, four RBI, a walk, a double, and a home run. McCloskey continued her strong start to the season with a 3-4 performance with three runs scored, three RBI, a double, and a walk.
Cadie McCracken also had a strong showing as she was 3-4 with three runs scored, three RBI, a walk, and two doubles.
Harley Shoaf added a 2-2 game with two runs scored, two RBI, and two walks, while Faidley was 2-3 with three runs scored, an RBI, and a walk.
In the circle, Boxberger picked up the win, tossing three shutout innings as she did not give up a hit and only one walk, while striking out five.
Shyann Clark finished the game holding Otero off the scoreboard, giving up just two hits and no walks, while striking out three.
Game 2 – Won 4-0 vs Otero
The second game of the doubleheader saw the Conqs' pitching staff continue to befuddle the bats of the Otero, and offensively, the Conqs scored early to secure the win. In the bottom of the first, Moore started the scoring for the Conqs, leading off the frame with a solo home run. McCracken and Boxberger each drew a walk in the first and came into score on a two RBI single by
Kloe Nelson to make it 3-0. The Conqs had scoring opportunities after the first but didn't manage to get on the board again until the fifth when an RBI single by
Dezarae Schmidt delivered the fourth run of the game. The duo of
Karli George and Clark continually stymied the bats of Otero throughout the contest, capping the game with a 4-0 win for the Conqs.
George tossed five shutout innings, not giving up a hit for the second straight outing, just giving up four walks and striking out eight. Clark capped the game, tossing the final two innings, earning a save, giving up just one hit, and striking out three.
McCracken had another multi-hit game, going 2-3 with a run scored, a walk, and three stolen bases, while Nelson added a 2-3 performance with a run scored and two RBI. Schmidt finished 2-3 with an RBI, and Moore was 1-3 with a home run, run scored, and RBI, and a walk.
