Women's Basketball Controls Game On Road Versus Fort Hays Tech Northwest

Dodge City women's basketball shut down Fort Hays Tech Northwest on the road, earning a 70-28 victory. The 28 points match the lowest opponent score by an NJCAA team under Head Coach Landon Steele, matching the game against Tech on January 6, 2025 (104-28). 

The Conquistadors, with the win, improved to 22-3 on the season and 17-3 in KJCCC, while marking the 12th straight win in the series over Fort Hays Tech Northwest. 

Conqs scored early to lead 2-0, and it remained that way until the 6:42 mark when Tech tallied their first bucket to draw even at 2-2. Over the next two and a half minutes, the game stayed tied at 2-2 as both teams struggled in the first quarter. Conqs finished the first quarter outscoring the Tigers of Tech 8-3 to lead 10-5. An 8-0 run to open the second quarter gave the Conqs more control of the game, leading 18-5 as Morgan Ruff and Manuela Piljevic dropped in three-pointers during the run. Conqs worked to a 20-9 lead and held Tech to six points for the final six minutes of the first half while scoring 13 points to lead 33-15 at intermission. 

In the second half, the Conqs continued taking advantage of the Tech turnovers and spread the wealth offensively as the lead continually grew over the course of the game with a 17-9 third quarter and 20-4 fourth quarter. The Conqs grabbed the win 70-28 on the road. 

Conqs shot just 37.9% from the field, but defensively held Tech to just 21.6% shooting, the lowest shooting performance by an opponent this season. The boards were controlled by the Conqs as they out rebounded the Tigers 41-21 and forced 28 Tech turnovers. 

A career-high 12 points by Morgan Ruff, who hit 4-7 three-pointers and added four steals, to her paced the Conqs in the contest. Savi Mi tallied 12 points with six rebounds and four assists, while Piljevic recorded 11 points on 4-8 shooting. Diana Villanyi recorded her first double figure performance of her Conq career with 10 points and added four rebounds. 

The Conqs hit the road again on Saturday, February 21st as they travel west to take on rival Garden City at 2:00 pm to continue the season.
