Dodge City softball picked up a pair of wins on the road in non-conference action, topping Northern Oklahoma College-Enid, winning 16-3 and 5-3.
The victories move the Conquistadors to 6-4 on the season.
Up next, the Conqs are back on their home diamond as they host Otero on Saturday, February 21st, for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
Game 1 – Won 16-3 at NOC-Enid (6 innings)
The day started with both teams struggling to get the bats going as the matchup was scoreless after three innings of action, with the Conqs scoring first in the top of the fourth.
Riley Moore led the fourth off with a single, and
Kloe Nelson would bring her in later in the inning on an RBI single to give Dodge City the 1-0 lead. NOC-Enid responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Conqs quickly tied the game in the top of the fifth as
Sophie Faidley belted a solo home run to open the inning. Four more runs scored for the Conqs in the fifth as
Avery McCloskey blasted a two-run homer and
Cadie McCracken had an RBI double, along with
Karli George recording an RBI single. NOC-Enid got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, but once again would get on the scoreboard in the sixth, taking advantage of free passes, scoring 10 runs in the inning with an RBI double by
Harley Shoaf, getting the scoring rolling. The Conqs capped the game in the bottom of the sixth, earning the 16-3 win.
A trio of Conqs had a multi-hit game as McCloskey was 2-4 with four RBI, a home run, a double, a walk, and a run scored. Moore added a 2-3 game with three runs scored, an RBI, and a walk, while Shoaf was 2-4 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI.
George earned the win in the circle as she did not give up a hit, tossing all six innings, giving up three runs on five walks and a hit batter, while striking out four.
Game 2 – Won 5-3 at NOC-Enid
The Conqs jumped out to the early lead in game two as Moore led off the game with a double, then stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by McCloskey. In the third, McCracken continued to have a hot bat, recording an RBI double to score McCloskey, who led the inning off with a double, and a
Camren Moses RBI single in the third made it 3-0 Conqs. NOC-Enid tallied a run in the bottom of the fifth, but just like game one, the Conqs answered the runs tallied by Enid, and they did in the sixth with a run to lead 4-1. A home run in the seventh by McCloskey pushed the Conqs to a 5-1 lead entering the bottom of the seventh. The Conqs worked two outs in the first three batters of the inning, but NOC-Enid would tally two runs before the Conqs secured the 5-3 victory.
McCracken paced a 10-hit attack for the Conqs as she was 3-4 with a run scored, an RBI, and two doubles.
Danica Miller added a 2-3 game, and McCloskey was 2-3 with two runs scored, two RBI, a home run, and a double.
McCloskey was also strong in the circle on top of her offensive impact in the game as she tossed all seven innings, giving up three unearned runs on four hits and four walks, while striking out six.
