Another three-point barrage paced the Dodge City women's basketball to another victory, using a strong second half to earn the 82-56 win over Pratt.
With the win, the Conquistadors move to 21-3 on the season and 16-3 in KJCCC action, marking the tenth straight win in the series against Pratt.
The Conqs opened the day with a three-pointer by
Jolie Mantz, but Pratt scored the next 11 points to lead 11-3 with just under six minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Conqs flipped the script by going on an 11-0 run, spearheaded by the three-point ball, and went up 14-11. However, by the end of the first quarter, the game was tied at 16-16. A
Savi Mi three-pointer gave the Conqs the lead early in the second stanza, but Pratt tied the game up at 22-22. Conqs once again had another run in them outscoring Pratt 9-1 over the next minute to lead 31-23. Pratt pushed back again to draw even at 31-31 with an 8-0 spurt, but the Conqs scored the final eight points of the first half to lead 39-31 at intermission.
Both teams shot over 40% in the first half, but the Conqs drained 11 three-pointers in the first half and went on to hit nine more in the second half, while Pratt cooled off to shoot just 33.3% in the second half. A 9-0 start to the second half got the Conqs rolling out of halftime as the lead ballooned to double figures and continued to grow throughout the third quarter as the Conqs posted a 23-9 third quarter, going on to secure the win over Pratt, 82-56.
The Conqs shot 42.3% on the day, netting a season best 20 three-pointers, and had 23 assists on 30 made field goals on the day. Defensively, the Conqs held Pratt to 38.2% shooting and forced 25 turnovers. On the boards, the Conqs were plus eight on the day and out rebounded Pratt 26-11 in the second half.
Mi tallied 18 points on 6-8 shooting for the Conqs, adding seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Mailey Cunningham posted a career-high 18 points on 7-14 shooting, while
Manuela Piljevic chipped in 13 points along with six rebounds and four assists. Mantz added 15 points, hitting four threes.
Conqs will spend the next week on the road, starting with a trip to Goodland to take on Fort Hays Tech Northwest at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, February 18th.
