Women's Basketball Falters On Road Against #19 Hutchinson

After an offensive outburst in the last game at home, the Dodge City women's basketball team hit the road again, and the offensive woes showed back up as the Conquistadors dropped a 60-51 matchup against #19 Hutchinson.

The loss sends the Conqs to 20-3 on the season and 15-3 in KJCCC, while splitting the season series with Hutchinson.

A quick three-pointer by Jolie Mantz and a jump shot by Savi Mi had the Conqs up 5-0 less than two minutes into the contest. Hutchinson scored the next nine points over the next seven minutes to grab a 9-5 advantage. Down 9-8 to open the second quarter, the Conqs hit a pair of free throws to lead 10-9 and would have a 13-11 lead after a Manuela Piljevic three-pointer. The game remained tight, locked at 18-18 for one and a half minutes of game action and would be tied several more times before intermission when Hutchinson edged ahead at 28-26. In the second half, the Conqs remained within striking distance and even regained the lead in the third quarter at 36-32, but Hutchinson capped the third on a 12-0 run to lead 44-36. Despite the Conqs efforts late, they would be unable to come back, falling 60-51.

The Conqs had their lowest scoring performance of the season and shot just 34% while Hutchinson controlled the boards, outrebounding the Conqs 49-27. Defensively, the Conqs held Hutchinson to just 37.1% shooting and forced 23 turnovers.

Piljevic tallied 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace the Conqs on the night, while Mantz chipped in 10 points.
The Conqs are back home on Saturday, February 14th, at 1:00 pm against Pratt, with only six games remaining in the regular season.
