Dodge City women's basketball jumped right back into action in a big way out of the holiday break, controlling the game against Fort Hays Tech Northwest from the start, cruising to a 107-37 victory.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 13-0 on the season and 8-0 in KJCCC action, marking the longest win streak since the 2004-05 season when the Conqs also started the season with 13-straight wins.
The Conqs asserted dominance early, scoring the first 11 points of the game before the Tigers of Fort Hays Tech finally got on the board nearly three minutes into the contest. Leading 17-7, the Conqs had a small 5-0 spurt to extend the lead and then went on to have the sixth 30+ quarter of the year, leading 32-14 after the first 10 minutes. The second quarter saw more dominance by the Conqs as they continued to add to their lead, scoring nine-straight points to open the quarter and then outscoring the Tigers 29-4 in the frame to lead 61-18 at halftime. The production on offense and defense by the Conqs continued to be spread around in the second half as the Conqs capped the game with a 25-8 fourth quarter to earn the 107-37 win.
Offensively, the Conqs tallied the most points in a game this season on their best shooting performance of the year, 55.1% from the field, as all 12 players scored at least five points in the win. Conqs made a season-high 38 field goals and had 24 assists, while also netting their best free-throw performance of the season, going 17-21.
The defense was stout for the Conqs, holding the Tigers to the lowest output by an opponent this season as they scored just 37 points on 29.2% shooting. Conqs scored a season high 33 turnovers, recording a season-high 19 steals, while making their season-high in rebounds with 41.
A trio of Conqs tallied double figures with three career-high performances led by
Jade Célérier who scored a career-best 15 points on 6-7 shooting adding eight assists and five steals in just 15 minutes. Off the bench,
Saje Evans matched her career-high, recording 14 points on 6-10 shooting, while
Ashley Lee tallied a new career-high 12 points on 4-6 shooting and 3-3 free throws.
Mailey Cunningham added nine points and seven rebounds, while
Jolie Mantz hit three three-pointers for nine points.
Conqs play host to rival Garden City on Wednesday, January 7th, at 5:30 pm to continue the season.
