Three-Pointers Help Women's Basketball Grab Road Win Over Cowley

The three-point basket has been a consistent piece of the equation for the Dodge City women's basketball team all season, and on Monday, it propelled them past Cowley on the road for a 78-68 victory as the Conquistadors hit 16 threes.

The Conqs with the win improved to 18-1 on the season and 13-1 in KJCCC action, while picking up their ninth win in the last 10 meetings with the Cowley Tigers in the series.
The three-pointers were dropping early and often for the Conqs as they jumped up to a double-figure lead at 14-4 nearly six minutes into the contest. The Conqs led 22-12 after the first quarter, and with a three-pointer early in the second quarter, led 25-12 as Manuela Piljevic made the seventh three-pointer of the game for Dodge City at that point of the game. The lead would go to as high as 16 early in the second quarter, but Cowley settled in and took advantage of some Conq turnovers, ultimately making it a three-point game, 34-31, at halftime. In the second half, the Conqs saw Cowley hang close, and the Tigers even grabbed the lead in the third quarter multiple times, but the Conqs led 55-54 at the end of the third. After being tied at 58-58 with 8:20 remaining, the Conqs would outscore Cowley 20-10 to cap the game at 78-68.

For the sixth time this season, the Conqs shot over 50% as a team, shooting 50.9% while netting 16 three-pointers, the most in a KJCCC game this season by the Conqs, shooting 44.4% from behind the arc. The ball movement was crisp for the Conqs with 22 assists, marking the tenth time this season recording 20+ assists.

Jolie Mantz was on fire from outside the arc, going 6-9 from three, finishing with 21 points to lead the Conqs. Piljevic tallied 15 points and eight rebounds, while Jade Célérier and Savi Mi both scored and distributed for the Conqs. Célérier finished with 13 points and eight assists, while Mi had 13 points and seven assists.

Conqs return home Saturday, January 31st, to take on Cloud County as they conference play continues with tip-off set for 1:00 pm.
