Volleyball Sweeps Cloud County in Straight Sets

Box Score Dodge City volleyball got back into the win column as they hosted Cloud County for Jayhawk conference action and earned the 3-0 sweep on the night, claiming the match, 25-16, 25-19, 25-9. 
 
The win moves the Conquistadors to 9-9 on the season and 3-3 in KJCCC action, while marking the ninth win in the latest 11 meetings against Cloud County. 
 
Cloud County would open the match, going up 3-1, but it would be tight early until Cloud County led 11-8. Conqs would push back to tie the set at 11-11, forcing a Thunderbird timeout, and then went up 15-12 after a 7-1 run. Conqs would finish the first set strong, outscoring Cloud County 10-4, including a late ace by Chelsea Durbridge to take the first set 25-16. The second set was tight early, but once again, midway through the set, the Conqs established firm control, leading 19-14, and then went on to take the set 25-19. Conqs put the finishing touches on the night early in the third set, taking control early, starting hot with a 7-1 run, and would grow the lead to double figures in the set before taking it 25-9 to win the match. 
 
Conqs hit .351 as a team for the match, including .435 in the third set as five different Conqs had four to nine kills in the win. Amariah White continued her strong play with nine kills on a .692 hitting percentage, while Rayssa Da Silva recorded seven kills, two aces, and five digs. Sunni Skipps added six kills, seven digs, and two aces. Durbridge was strong with 24 assists, five kills, three aces, and six digs. 
 
The current homestand stretch for the Conqs will wrap up next Monday, September 29th, when the Conqs hit the floor next as they host Hutchinson at 6:30 pm.
