After a victory on the road to open Jayhawk Conference play, the Dodge City women's soccer team was back in action at home in conference play as they hosted rival Garden City. The Conquistadors would suffer their first loss of the season, falling 2-1.
The loss moves the Conqs to 3-1 on the season and 1-1 in KJCCC.
The first half would be a back-and-forth affair, with most of the action taking place in the middle of the field, as both teams struggled to break through and get a clear look towards the goal. At halftime, the game remained scoreless with only seven combined shots put forth. In the second half, Garden City generated an early chance in the attacking third, winning a corner and redirecting the corner into the back of the net, giving them a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute. That lead would hold up for the Broncbusters and then grow in the 74th minute with their second goal. Just a few moments later in the 76th minute, the Conqs put themselves right back into the game as
Laura Larsen pushed a pass ahead and
Kenza Daher-Hassan split a pair of defenders to tally her first goal of the season, making it 2-1. The Conqs' opportunities would be limited the rest of the way, but would see a few more looks to towards the goal, but were unable to find an equalizer, falling 2-1.
It was close to even overall as Garden City only out shot the Conqs 10-9 in the match. Daher-Hassan netted the goal for the Conqs, becoming the sixth different goal scorer on the season.
Another tough task looms for the Conqs as they will travel to #12 Hutchinson on Wednesday, September 17th, for a 6:00 pm contest.
