For the first time since 2019, the Dodge City women's soccer team has opened Jayhawk Conference play with a win as they picked up the 1-0 decision on the road against Coffeyville.
The Conquistadors, with the victory, not only start KJCCC play 1-0 but also move to 3-0 on the season.
The first half would see limited opportunities for the Conqs as they fired off six shots, but would control the tempo of the contest and limit Coffeyville to very little time, even in their attacking third in the half. However, despite more possession in the first half, the Conqs were locked up in a scoreless battle with the Red Ravens at halftime. In the second half, the Conqs would pick up the pace and play primarily on the attack, rifling off 18 shots in the second half. Finally, in the 68th minute,
Mette Battling would get the Conqs on the board, putting in a rebound opportunity. Kenza Daher-Hassen squared up a shot on goal and Coffeyville came up with the save, but on the rebound, Battling pushed it back towards the goal to net the only goal of the contest as the Conqs won 1-0.
Battling tallied the lone Conq goal, while Daher-Hassen got the assist, as the Conqs outshot Coffeyville 24-2.
Kimya Kante-Mavuba played all 90 minutes in goal as the Conqs recorded the shutout win, while the defensive backline for the Conqs was stout with the play of
Kensia Dos Santos,
Tara Knego,
Kathia Ramirez, and
Jada Lamond leading the way among others, helping stymie Coffeyville throughout the game.
The Conqs are back home on Saturday, September 13th, as they will take on rival Garden City with a 2:00 pm start time.
