Men's Plays to a Draw In Conference Opener at Coffeyville

Dodge City men's soccer opened Jayhawk Conference play on the road against Coffeyville, and while the Conquistadors remained undefeated on the season, they settled for a 2-2 tie to open KJCCC play.

The Conqs with the tie moved to 3-0-2 on the season and start conference play 0-0-1.

It would take 33 minutes of action for the first score of the contest as both teams had a few opportunities early but a miscue by the Conqs opened the door for Coffeyville, and the Red Ravens took advantage with a goal. That 1-0 lead for the Red Ravens would hold up going into halftime as the Conqs had a pair of solid looks late in the first half but were unable to score. The Conqs would break through in the second half in the 53rd minute as Demario Murray received a nice pass from Ishmael Jones and delivered the equalizer. It would remain locked up at 1-1 until the 77th minute when the Conqs made a counter and Tadiwanshe Nhau found Haruto Kita, who would give the Conqs the 2-1 lead. Looking to secure the win, the Conqs would try to stymie Coffeyville the rest of the way, but the Red Ravens squared up a cross in the 85th and connected on it to sneak it in the top corner on the far post and draw even. The contest would go on to finish gridlocked at 1-1 as the Conqs settled for the tie on the road.

Conqs fired off 11 shots in the contest, with Murray and Kita each netting goals, with Nhau and Jones both tallying assists on the day.

The Conqs are back home on Saturday, September 13th, as they will take on rival Garden City with a noon start time.
