Dodge City men's soccer team put on the rout in the season opener as they sailed past Lamar with a 10-1 victory, scoring the most goals in a game since the 2022 season for the program (September 3rd, 2022 – Dodge City won 14-2 vs Mountain View College).
The Conquistadors would dominate the contest nearly from horn to horn, ending the matchup in the 70th minute with the new rule of leading by eight goals or more at the 70th minute or after the game is stopped and final.
Early control and pace were set by the Conqs, but in the tenth minute of the game, Lamar sent a long ball ahead and was able to squeeze through for a shot to net the first goal of the game. For the next few minutes, Lamar seemed to play with a more intense pace, but the Conqs were not rattled as they pushed back and then went on a scoring spree. Things evened up in the 21st minute as
Francesco Valenti tallied the Conqs' first goal of the season off a pass from
Felipe Samary, then nearly two minutes later,
Dario Baudo gave the Conqs a 2-1 lead.
The Conqs continued to share the wealth, scoring as
Ishmael Jones netted a goal in the 25th minute after
David Garcia found him, getting the assist. Garcia then would tally a penalty kick opportunity for the Conqs in the 29th minute which led to Lamar player's disqualification and the Lopes playing a man down the rest of the game.
Soma Kanazawa made it 5-1 in the 33rd minute with a goal, and just before halftime in the 41st minute, Baudo would score his second goal as Kanazawa found him for the Conqs' sixth goal of the day.
Leading 6-1 at intermission, the Conqs continued to dominate in the second half and would spread out the opportunities. Valenti netted his second goal in the 51st minute, then
Davide Dalla Francesca in the 57th minute, and
Brian Hara would score the final two goals coming in the 64th and 66th minutes.
The Conqs would out shoot Lamar 29-6 in the contest with a two-goal day for Valenti, Baudo, and Hara each, while Garcia, Jones, Francesca, and Kanazawa each had a goal.
Geovanni De Luna was in goal for the Conqs and tallied three saves on the day. Musahi Tanaka,
Jackson Balderramos, Samary, and
Zade Douglas each tallied an assist, while Garcia and Kanazawa each had a pair of assists.
Up next, the Conqs continue with non-conference play as they will hit the road for the next two contests, first traveling to Northern Oklahoma College-Enid in Enid, Oklahoma, on Wednesday, August 27th, for a 6:00 pm matchup.
