Dodge City baseball bounced back with a pair of 11-5 wins on the road against rival Garden City to open the series against the Broncbusters.
The wins move the Conqs to 20-15 on the season and 6-12 in KJCCC action, while making the Conqs 11-2 in the last 13 meetings against Garden City.
The series has a quick turnaround as the Conqs welcome Garden City to town on Thursday, April 3rd for a doubleheader.
Game 1 – Won 11-5 at Garden City
After falling behind early with a run in the first inning by Garden City the Conqs would take control in the third with an outpouring of nine runs. After a hit by pitch and single to open the inning the Conqs got on the board with an RBI single by
Josh McClintock. Conqs added runs in the third off a bases-loaded walk from
Jose Alfonso, two RBI single by
Cameron Stukenborg, an RBI single by
Ben Longoria, and a three-run home run by
Calvin Warrillow to lead 9-1. Garden City cut into the lead with a four-run fifth, but the Conqs added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth on a
Seth Brown home run and an
MD Conner RBI double and would secure the 11-5 win.
Three Conqs finished with a multi-hit game as the Conqs had 11 hits in the contest. McClintock was 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while Conner added a 2-4 game with a run scored, an RBI, and a double.
Juan Concepcion chipped in a 2-4 game with two runs scored, a triple, and an RBI.
Will David earned the win by throwing 4.2 innings giving up five runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three;
Cameron Stewart tossed a scoreless 2.1 innings to wrap up the contest.
Game 2 – Won 11-5 at Garden City
Just like game one on the day the Conqs fell behind early surrendering a run to Garden City in the first but quickly responded with three in the second, highlighted by an RBI single by
Seth Brown. Conqs tacked on another in the top of the third, but Garden City would score two in the third and two in the fourth to not only tie the game but take the lead at 5-4. It remained 5-4 until the seventh when Concepcion belted a two-run home run lifting the Conqs back in front at 6-5. In the eighth
Josh McGuin got the scoring going for the Conqs with a solo home run and the Conqs added two more runs.
Freddy Oquendo added another run on an RBI single in the ninth for the Conqs as they earned the doubleheader sweep with an 11-5 win in game two.
Seth Brown continued to have a strong day as he was 4-6 with a run scored and RBI, while Concepcion posted a 3-6 game with two RBI, a run scored, and a home run. Six other Conqs had a hit in the win as the team recorded 13 hits in the win.
Caleb Tucker was strong in the starting role tossing four innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five.
Marcos Santiago earned the win in relief throwing five scoreless innings giving up just one hit and three walks while striking out three.
