Baseball Breaks Out the Brooms Sweeping Series Versus Garden City

The Dodge City baseball team broke out the brooms for the first time this season in KJCCC action sweeping a full four-game series beating rival Garden City. After taking two on the road the Conquistadors picked up two more wins over the Broncbusters of Garden City on Thursday at home winning 12-11 and 14-3. 

The Conqs with the pair of wins at home improved to 22-15 on the season and 8-12 in KJCCC action, while winning their fourth straight series against Garden City in the all-time series. 

Conqs will now have a break over the weekend and will gear up for more KJCCC action next week against Pratt. The series with the Beavers will start in Pratt on Thursday, April 10th, and then be in Dodge City on Saturday, April 12th. 

Game 1 – Won 12-11 at Dodge City
The Conqs trailed to open both games on the road on Wednesday and game three of the series was no different as Garden City plated three runs in the first inning to take the initial lead. In the bottom of the first, the Conqs responded with a pair of runs and then scored two more in the second with solo home runs by Josh McClintock and Juan Concepcion to push the Conqs to a 4-3 lead. Garden City would use the home run ball in the third to score four runs and regain the lead while adding another in the fourth. In the fourth, the Conqs managed to tally two more runs and in the fifth, both teams got on the board again with three runs by Garden City and four for the Conqs with an RBI double by MD Conner and RBI singles by Jose Alfonso and Concepcion. Looking to complete the comeback the Conqs would score two in the sixth to take the 12-11 lead. The Conqs would shut the door in the top of the seventh, but Garden City would get the tying run to third before a fly ball out to center field to cap the game at 12-11 in favor of the Conqs. 

Conqs tallied 15 hits in the win led by a 4-5 game by Juan Concepcion who had a home run, three RBI, and three runs scored. McClintock added a 2-3 game with three runs scored, two RBI, a walk, a double, and a home run. It was a 3-4 game for Ben Longoria with a double and two runs scored, while Alfonso was 2-3 with three RBI and a double. 

Cameron Stewart earned the win tossing the final 2.2 innings holding Garden City off the board giving up just one hit and one walk. Wyatt Sadleir had a solid three innings as the starter. 

Game 2 – Won 14-3 at Dodge City 
In the series finale, the Conqs would break through to score first taking control early with seven runs in the first inning. A two-RBI single by Calvin Warrillow and three RBI double by Jaxen Derry highlighted the seven-run first for the Conqs. Garden City responded with three runs in the second, but the Conqs would do the rest of the scoring with a run in the third and then six more in the fifth. Warrillow belted a solo home run to open the fifth and then Conner smacked a grand slam to lead 14-3. The Conqs shut the door in the seventh to finish off the series with a 14-3 run-rule victory. 

Conqs recorded 13 hits in victory led by three Conqs with a three-hit game. Derry recorded a 3-4 game with a double, three RBI, and a run scored, while Warrillow was 3-3 with three runs scored, three RBI, a double, and a home run. McClintock posted a 3-5 game with three RBI and two runs scored. 

Cameron Stukenborg earned the win on the mound tossing five strong innings, giving up just three runs, while Connor Lovin capped the game with two scoreless innings of work.
