Jayhawk Conference play continued for Dodge City softball as they hit the road for the first time in conference play taking on Barton in Great Bend.
The Conquistadors would fall 7-2 and 8-0 in five innings in the doubleheader pushing the Conqs to 6-12 on the season and 3-3 in KJCCC action.
The week ahead is set for a busy week as the Conqs will host Frank Phillips on Monday, March 10th for twinbill at 1:00 pm, and then will travel to take on Pratt on Wednesday, March 12th. Conqs will return home on Thursday, March 13th to square off with Dakota College of Bottineau and then will take on Fort Hays Tech Northwest on Saturday, March 15th.
Game 1 – Lost 7-2 at Barton
The day started strong for the Conqs getting a double by
Elly Tancayo and then
Whitley Cash reached on an error and with two outs
Josie Oakley delivered an RBI double to give the Conqs the early 1-0 lead. Barton would tie the game with a run in the bottom of the second and then in the bottom of the fourth the Cougars of Barton would tally six runs to take control of the game. Conqs got back on the board in the top of the sixth as Cash belted a solo home run, but the Coqns would not be able to get on the board again falling 7-2.
Conqs had just five hits in the loss, Cash was 1-3 with a run scored, RBI, and a home run, while Tancayo was 1-4 with a run scored and double. Oakley added a 1-2 game with an RBI, walk, and a double.
Riley Moore and
Karen Galaviz each added a hit.
Shyann Clark tossed 3.1 innings of action and
Jordyn Boxberger finished the game tossing 2.2 innings.
Game 2 – Lost 8-0 at Barton
The second game of the day saw the bats struggle for the Conqs only able to get three hits in the contest while Barton tallied eight runs on nine hits. The Conqs found themselves behind early scoring three runs in the bottom of the first and then added a run in the fourth and four in the fifth to cap the game in five innings.
The Conqs had hits from
Dezarae Schmidt, Oakley, and
Anistyn Marcotte, while
Frankie Martens pitched for the Conqs in the loss.
