Dodge City baseball wrapped up the first KJCCC series of the season with a pair of tough losses on the road to #21 Hutchinson.
The Conquistadors fell 5-2 in game one and 11-1 in game two to move to 12-6 on the season and 1-3 in KJCCC.
The Conqs are back at home on Tuesday, March 11th when they host McCook for one game at 2:00 pm and then will take on Cloud County in their next KJCCC series. Conqs start the series against Cloud County in Concordia on Thursday, March 13th, and then will host Cloud County on Saturday, March 15th.
Game 1 – Lost 5-2 at Hutchinson
The Conqs would get a pair of runners on in the top of the first to start the day but would be unable to score while Hutchinson plated two runs in the bottom of the first. The Conqs would limit Hutchinson to just two runs in the first as the Blue Dragons of Hutchinson left the bases loaded. Conqs saw the deficit grow in the third and fourth as Hutchinson tallied a run in each inning to lead 4-0. In the top of the fifth
Seth Brown brought in the Conq's first run of the contest with an RBI groundout and then
Juan Concepcion followed that with an RBI double to make it 4-2. Hutchinson added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, while the Conqs were unable to muster up much in the seventh falling 5-2.
Josh McClintock and Concepcion both had a multi-hit game in the loss. McClintock finished 2-4 with a run scored and a double, while Concepcion was 2-3 with a double and an RBI.
Josh McGuin,
Cameron Stukenborg, and
Jose Alfonso each had a hit.
Connor Lovin went 4.1 innings as the starter giving up four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four.
David Bosque tossed the final 1.2 innings giving up one run on a hit and a walk.
Game 2 – Lost 11-1 at Hutchinson
The Conqs would fall behind early in the series finale as Hutchinson would tally four runs in the first and then add three more in the third to lead 7-0. The Conqs broke through in the top of the fourth on an RBI groundout from
Ben Longoria but Hutchinson would finish off the game in the sixth and seventh innings scoring one in the sixth and three in the seventh. In the series finale, the Conqs fell 11-1 in seven innings and were outhit 12-3 in the loss.
Alfonso, McGuin, and Brown recorded the lone hits for the Conqs in the loss.
Marcos Santiago started the contest tossing four innings giving up seven runs but only three earned on six hits and two walks, while
Cameron Stukenborg tossed 2.2 innings.
