Dodge City men's basketball capped the regular season with their fourth straight win marking their longest win streak of the season as they picked up a 76-66 win over Hutchinson.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 14-16 on the season and caps their KJCCC season with an 11-13 record to finish ninth in the KJCCC. The win also gives the Conqs a 10-4 record on the season.
The contest was back-and-forth early until the Conqs grabbed a 10-9 lead and would go on a 7-0 run to lead 15-9 six minutes into the contest. Hutchinson countered with a 6-0 run to tie the game at 15-15 but the Conqs countered again to take the lead back and would work to a double-figure lead at 32-21 behind a three-pointer from
Derrick Rivers with 6:07 left in the first half. Conqs finished the first half strong and carried a 40-27 lead into intermission. The lead would remain double figures for a good portion of the second half, but Hutchinson would make a run to tighten the contest drawing within four with four minutes left in the game and then a two-point game at 67-65 with 3:39 left in the game. The Conqs capped the game on a 9-1 run and secured the 76-66.
The Conqs finished the contest shooting 43.3% and went 17-24 from the free throw line, while Hutchinson only shot 35.8%. Conqs also outrebounded Hutchinson 44-39 in the win.
Jayse Boatwright paced the Conqs with 22 points and seven rebounds, while
Mynor Strong added 19 points with 16 coming in the first half. Rivers chipped in 14 points and six rebounds, while
Wesly Rosa grabbed 12 rebounds and added six points and six blocks.
The Conqs finish as the nine seed in the KJCCC and will hit the road for the opening round of the Region 6 Tournament as they will travel to Goodland to take on Fort Hays Tech Northwest at 6:30 pm (5:30 pm MST).
