Dodge City softball wrapped up the week with a tough doubleheader against Hutchinson falling 10-0 and 10-2 in a pair of five-inning contests.
The losses drop the Conquistadors to 15-15 on the season and 8-6 in KJCCC action.
Conqs step out of conference play on Monday, March 23rd as they will take on Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa for a doubleheader on the road starting at 2:00 pm. Conqs return home on Wednesday, March 26th to host Seward County in KJCCC action for an evening doubleheader starting at 5:00 pm.
Game 1 – Lost 10-0 at Hutchinson
The Conqs would struggle on the day at the plate while their counterpart Hutchinson would get their offense rolling early. In the bottom of the first the Conqs gave up a three-run home run and found themselves behind. The Hutchinson lead would continue to grow throughout the contest with four runs in the second and three more in the fourth. Conqs would manage just two hits in the loss and fell 10-0 in five innings.
Karen Galaviz and
Rylie Miller each were 1-2 in the loss while
Anistyn Marcotte drew a walk.
Frankie Martens threw just 1.2 innings as the starter, while
Shyann Clark tossed 2.1 innings of relief.
Game 2 – Lost 10-2 at Hutchinson
Conqs looked like they figured something out offensively in game two as they led the game off with a single by Galaviz and then got a big RBI single by
Josie Oakley to get a run across. The Conqs tacked on another run in the first and led 2-0. Hutchinson would counter with a run in the bottom of the first. It remained 2-1 in favor of the Conqs until the bottom of the third when things unraveled for the Conqs as Hutchinson scored eight runs to take control and then added one more in the bottom of the fifth to end the game 10-2 after five innings.
Miller, Galaviz,
Elly Tancayo, Oakley, and
Kaylee Kinsinger all recorded a hit in the loss.
Jordyn Boxberger tossed two innings as the starter while Marcotte and Clark pitched in the loss.
