Dodge City baseball capped the second KJCCC series of the season falling to Cloud County at home 18-6 and 12-9.
The Conquistadors' losses drop them to 13-10 on the season and 1-7 in KJCCC action.
Conference play continues for the Conqs this week as they take on Butler next hosting the Grizzlies on Thursday, March 20th, and then travel to El Dorado on Saturday, March 22nd. Before taking on Butler the Conqs will square off with Otero in a doubleheader on the road on Tuesday, March 18th.
Game 1 – Loss 18-6 vs Cloud County
It was early offense on the day for both teams to open the action in Dodge City as Cloud County took the early lead with a run in the first, but the Conqs countered with two runs highlighted by an RBI double by
Juan Concepcion. In the second inning, Cloud County took the lead back with five runs but again the Conqs had an answer scoring four in the bottom of the second getting RBI singles by
Josh McClintock and
Seth Brown, along with an RBI triple by Concepcion. In the top of the third Cloud County tallied four runs and would take control adding three in the fifth, one in the sixth, and four in the seventh. The Conqs would fall 18-6 in the first game of the doubleheader.
Concepcion paced the Conqs at the plate going 3-4 with two RBI, a run scored, a double, and a triple. Brown added a multi-hit game with a 2-4 performance with two runs scored and an RBI.
Game 2 – Loss 12-9 vs Cloud County
The Conqs would find themselves in an early hole again in the series finale as Cloud County would plate three runs in the second inning, but the Conqs got one back in the bottom of the inning on a
Jaxen Derry RBI single. Both teams would tally a run in the fifth, and then the Conqs cut into the deficit and took the lead at the bottom of the sixth with three runs to lead 5-4. Derry delivered a two-RBI double to give the Conqs the lead. In the top of the seventh Cloud County regained the lead with three runs but the Conqs would plate two in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 7-7. While the Conqs would get a run in the eighth and a solo home run by
MD Conner in the ninth Cloud County would score four in the eighth and one in the ninth to take the game 12-9.
Derry helped lead the Conqs at the plate going 3-4 with two doubles and four RBI, while
Josh McGuin finished 3-5 with two runs scored, two RBI, and a double. Conner added a 2-3 game with three runs scored, an RBI, a double, and a home run. Concepcion and
Cameron Stukenborg each recorded a pair of hits.
