Women's Basketball Clinches Share of KJCCC Title With Victory Over Coffeyville

Dodge City women's basketball for the second time in the last three years closed out the regular season home portion of the schedule undefeated at home beating #18 Coffeyville 74-50. The victory also gives the Conquistadors a share of the KJCCC title only the fourth in school history.

The Conquistadors improved to 26-3 on the season with the win and 21-2 in KJCCC action, while moving to 13-0 at home this season and have won 25 straight games at home.

Just a few seconds into the contest the Conqs tallied the first bucket in the game, but Coffeyville would score the next seven points to lead 7-2 as the Conqs would go scoreless until the 3:30 mark. Trailing 7-2 the Conqs would score seven unanswered to take the 9-7 lead but at the end of the first quarter, Coffeyville held the 11-9 advantage. After going up 13-9 early in the second stanza Coffeyville would go cold as the Conqs started to heat up after starting the game 1-10 from the field. With a 17-0 run the Conqs changed the game as the Conqs established control going up 30-13 and didn't look back outscoring Coffeyville 30-10 in the second quarter to lead 39-21 at intermission. The Coqns continued to fend off the Red Ravens of Coffeyville throughout the second half and went on to secure the 74-50 victory.

While the Conqs only shot 39.4% from the field they hit 14 three-pointers and held Coffeyville to 34.8% shooting with 21 turnovers. Conqs finished with 21 assists for 26 made field goals and had a season-low seven turnovers.

Shorna Preston stuffed the stat sheet yet again as she finished with a game-high 20 points on 7-10 shooting adding seven rebounds, five assists, four blocks, and two steals.
