Men's Basketball Starts & Finishes Strong In Upset Win Over Coffeyville

A strong start and solid finish propelled the Dodge City men's basketball team to another Top 20 upset win in Jayhawk Conference play as they took down #18 Coffeyville 92-77.

The Conquistadors with the win make it three in a row and improve to 13-16 on the season and 10-13 in KJCCC action.

The Conqs jumped out to a 4-0 lead early and would never give the lead up as they worked to a 14-5 advantage. The lead would balloon to double figures with a Jayse Boatwright layup with just under 11 minutes left in the first half as the Conqs led 21-10. Coffeyville would look to make a push and draw within four at 23-19 with six minutes to go in the first half but the Conqs had an answer outscoring the Red Ravens of Coffeyville 18-9 going into halftime to lead 41-28. Conqs opened the second half on a quick 6-0 spurt leading to a Coffeyville timeout. The lead continued to grow in the second half until Coffeyville drew within single digits in the final five minutes of the game but the Conqs answered the bell again and pushed back reestablishing a double-figure lead and going to to claim the win by double digits at 92-77.

Offensively the Conqs were efficient shooting 50.8% from the field and were 18-22 from the free-throw line while Coffeyville did shoot 47.2% but had 15 turnovers and the Conqs had just eight.

Five guys finished the night with double figures for the Conqs as Mynor Strong led the way with 23 points on 7-14 shooting and added six assists. Boatwright chipped in 19 points on 6-12 shooting and 7-8 from the charity stripe. Wesly Rosa finished with a double-double posting a career-high 16 points on 8-10 shooting and grabbing 11 rebounds.
