Dodge City men's basketball looked to continue their recent momentum but fell 102-79 to a hot-shooting Pratt team at home.
The Conquistadors fall to 9-14 on the season and 6-11 in Jayhawk Conference action and the loss snaps a three-game win streak for the Conqs.
After opening the game with a three-pointer by
Derrick Rivers the Conqs saw Pratt mount a 15-2 run to lead 15-5 five minutes into the contest. Pratt continued to maintain the lead, but the Conqs pushed back to stay in the game drawing within four at 21-17 with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. However, Pratt grew the lead back to double figures by the seven-minute mark at 34-23 and carried a 48-37 lead into halftime. In the second half, the lead ballooned to over 20 for Pratt and the Conqs' final big push got them to within 14 points with just over six minutes remaining, but Pratt went on a 6-0 run to push the lead back to 20 and would go on to cement the game as the Conqs fell 102-79.
While the Conqs shot 40.8% for the field and forced 17 Pratt turnovers the Beavers of Pratt were scorching hot from the floor on the night. Pratt shot 57.8% from the field and 60% (9-15) from three-point range, along with 19-24 free throws, while also controlling the boards 43-28.
Rivers paced the Conqs in the loss with 20 points on 7-16 shooting including 5-10 three-pointers adding five rebounds.
Jayse Boatwright chipped in 16 points, while
Jamari Gamble had a solid evening with 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
Keshawn Brown Jr. added 11 points off the bench.
The Conqs are now gearing up for a road trip to Liberal, where they will take on Seward County on Saturday, February 8th, for a 4:00 p.m. tip against the Saints.
