Dodge City men's basketball continue to be road warriors this season and in KJCCC play as they take down another Jayhawk Conference foe on the road winning 73-58 over Seward County to avenge an earlier season loss to the Saints.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 10-14 overall and 7-11 in KJCCC action while improving to 8-3 on the road this season (6-3 in KJCCC action).
The Conqs opened the game establishing the early lead going up 8-2 but a quick 5-0 spurt by Seward County tightened it up at 8-6 until the Conqs flipped it back with their own 5-0 run to lead 13-6. Conqs pushed the lead to double figures for the first time on the day with 11:14 remaining in the first half as the Conqs led 21-11 after a
Jayse Boatwright three-pointer. For the next three-plus minutes the Conqs would go scoreless, but Seward County was unable to make a run and the Conqs would ultimately carry a 29-24 lead into halftime. The lead jumped to 12 early in the first half and would be 20 with 11:15 left in the game at 54-34 as
Mynor Strong drained a three-pointer. Seward County would not get any closer than 13 the rest of the way as the Conqs outscored the Saints by 10 in the second half to earn the 73-58 win.
On the day the Conqs were efficient from the floor shooting 45.8% overall and 10-22 from three-point range, while also taking care of the ball having only seven turnovers and recording 17 assists on 27 made field goals. Seward County shot 43.4% from the field but only 5-16 from three-point range.
Boatwright finished with 20 points on 8-14 shooting while adding six rebounds. Strong chipped in 16 points with four rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
Jamari Gamble had a strong performance finishing with 17 points while adding four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
The Conqs now gear up for the stretch run with six games remaining in the regular season. After a bye on Wednesday the Conqs will be back in action on Saturday, February 15th on the road at #22 Barton for a 7:30 pm tip.
