Women's Basketball Cruises Past Fort Hays Tech

Dodge City women's basketball stretched their home win streak to 23 straight games with an 83-36 win over Fort Hays Tech Northwest Tigers. 
 
The win moves the Conquistadors to 23-3 on the season and 18-2 in KJCCC with four games remaining in the regular season. 
 
The Conqs would trail early and not take the lead until three minutes into the contest when a Tayah Morgan three-pointer made it 6-4 for the Conqs. A 15-0 from the 4-2 deficit the Conqs faced gave the Conqs control of the matchup leading to a 17-4 advantage with under two minutes left in the first quarter as the Conqs lead 22-8 after the first 10 minutes. It would take nearly two minutes into the second quarter before either team got on the board as the Conqs finally did and ultimately outscored the Tigers 17-5 leading to a 39-13 lead at intermission. The second half would continue to see the Conqs swipe the ball away from the Tigers and force turnovers while stretching their lead with a 21-12 third quarter and then a 23-11 fourth to secure the 83-36 victory. 
 
The Conqs shot 46.3% for the contest hitting 11 three-pointers and had 23 assists on 31 made field goals. While defensively the Conqs held Tech to just 20.3% shooting including 3-32 from three-point range and forced a season-high 33 turnovers from their opponent. Conqs also had a season-high 27 steals as a team in the win. 
 
Shorna Preston tallied 17 points adding eight rebounds and six steals to help lead the way, while Tayah Morgan added 12 points on 5-9 shooting. Becca Unruh and Savi Mi each chipped in nine points, while Konstantina Mantziori finished with eight points, five assists, and four steals. Mi added five rebounds, seven assists, and seven steals to her night. Morane Dossou added eight points and five rebounds, while Layla-J Cameron finished with six points, five rebounds, five assists, and five steals. 
 
Back on the road, the Conqs go to continue the season on Saturday, February 22nd as they travel to Colby to take on the Trojans at 2:00 pm.
