Dodge City women's soccer sweeps the season series with Coffeyville, taking down the Red Ravens for the second time this season as they earned the 2-1 victory at home for their fifth win of the season.
The Conquistadors outdueled Coffeyville and improved to 5-4 on the season and 3-4 in KJCCC action while being unbeaten against the Red Ravens in the last six meetings (4-0-2).
Setting the tone early, the Conqs controlled the possession in the first half and were on the attack, constantly moving forward as they outshot Coffeyville 13-0 in the first half. The Conqs would break through on the scoreboard when
Jada Lamond wrestled the possession back in favor of the Conqs at the top of the box and then went one-on-one with the goalkeeper before netting her first goal of the season, getting the goal in the 15th minute. Up 1-0 at halftime, the Conqs would add to their lead in the 57th minute as
Naomy Parra found Lamond, who would tally her second goal of the day.
Coffeyville did not go away quietly as they would earn a penalty kick opportunity in the 66th minute and get on the board, but the Conqs would stymie the rest of their chances as
Lucy Goss came up with some clutch saves and had a strong presence from
Tara Knego and
Kensia Dos Santos defensively around her to help the Conqs secure the 2-1 victory.
Conqs would outshoot Coffeyville 18-10 in the contest but were outshot in the second half 10-5 after a 13-0 first half outshooting the Red Ravens. Lamond tallied both goals, becoming the seventh different goal scorer this season for the Conqs, while Goss earned the win in the goal, recording six saves all in the second half.
The Conqs hit the road to take on rival Garden City on Wednesday, October 8th, for a 5:00 pm kick and then will travel to Hutchinson on Friday, October 10th, at 6:00 pm to finish a suspended game against the Blue Dragons from September 17th.
