Dodge City men's soccer wrapped up the regular season with another battle against a Top 10 opponent, having played three Top 10 teams in the final four regular-season matches.
The Conquistadors took on #5 Cowley at home and ultimately fell 3-1 in a tough battle. The loss moves the Conqs to 9-4-3 on the season and 4-4-2 in conference play.
Cowley grabbed early possession and would fire off some shots early, but the Conqs were able to keep them off the board as the contest remained scoreless until the 17th minute. In the 17th minute, a handball was called in the box, and a penalty kick was awarded to Cowley. The Tigers would then get on the board to take a 1-0 advantage. Early in the second half, Cowley extended their lead in the 49th minute and then, in the 72nd minute, made it 3-0. The Conqs continued to push and would get on the board in the 87th minute with a
Brian Hara goal from a pass from
Jackson Balderramos and
Tadiwanshe Nhau, but would be unable to get another running out of time, falling 3-1.
In the loss, the Conqs were outshot 26-11 in the loss.
Rensho Ishikawa recorded 10 saves in goal for the Conqs.
The Conqs now await their opponent for the first round of the NJCAA DI Plains District playoffs, which will take place on Sunday, November 2nd.
