Dodge City men's soccer scored four more goals as they earned a 4-2 victory over Seward County to continue their strong season.
The win for the Conquistadors is the ninth as they improved to 9-3-3 on the season and 4-3-2 in KJCCC action. The victory also moves the Conqs to 5-0-1 at home this year, while marking their fourth win over the Saints in the series out of six matches (4-1-1).
The Conqs were aggressive early, and it paid dividends as the Conqs would get on the board in the 11th minute as
Keitu Mphomane, for the second straight game, would register a goal for the Conqs off a save of
Ishmael Jones' shot. Six minutes later, the Conqs' lead grew to a 2-0 advantage as
Musashi Tanaka received a pass from
Soma Kanazawa and tallied the goal.
Leading 2-0 entering the second half, the Conqs would waste no time making it 3-0, scoring less than a minute into the second half as Tanaka took a corner kick and found a way to boot it. Seward County answered quickly, less than a minute later, getting their first goal on a shot from 30+ yards out. It remained 3-1 until the 77th minute when the Conqs saw a great cross from Mphomane to find
Yushin Mizutani for the goal as he became the 14th different Conq to score a goal this season. Leading 4-1, looking to put the finishing touches on the game, the Conqs would be called for a foul in the box, giving way to a penalty kick with just over a minute left and Seward County picked up their second goal, but the Saints didn't have any more time to push back as the Conqs earned the 4-2 victory.
Conqs controlled most of the match, outshooting Seward County 21-9 in the contest, including 12-2 in the first half.
Geovanni De Luna recorded three saves in goal for the win, while Mizutani and Mphomane each had a goal, and Tanaka had two.
Up next is a clash with #3 Cowley in Dodge City on Wednesday, October 22nd, as the Conqs will wrap up conference play, looking to solidify a top spot in the KJCCC to set up postseason play.
