Dodge City women's soccer went on the road for a big KJCCC match against Barton, looking to stay alive for a first-round playoff matchup, but would suffer a setback in the pursuit of a top-four finish in the conference with a 5-0 loss on the road.
The loss for the Conquistadors drops them to 6-7 on the season and 4-7 in conference play with only three matches remaining in the regular season.
Despite playing into the wind in the first half, the Conqs struggled to create offensive chances, while Barton got on the board early, scoring in the third minute. It would remain 1-0 until late in the first half when Barton, in the 43rd minute just before halftime, tacked on another goal to carry a 2-0 lead into intermission. In the second half, the Conqs would pick up their offensive opportunities, outshooting Barton 7-5 in the half, but would be unable to get on the board as the Cougars found three more goals coming in the 62nd, 65th, and 68th minutes, leading to a 5-0 final as the Conqs fell on the road.
In the loss, the Conqs were only outshot 12-9 by Barton; however, it was 8-3 in shots on goal in favor of Barton.
Conqs will face off against Seward County on Sunday, October 19th at 1:00 pm at home to continue the season.
