Women's Basketball Dominates Fort Hays Tech Cruising to Road Win

The Dodge City women's basketball team picked up where they left off from the first semester as they dominated on the road in Goodland in the first game back from the holiday break cruising to a 104-28 win over Fort Hays Tech Northwest.

The win moves the Conquistadors to 13-1 on the season and 8-0 in KJCCC action while extending their win streak to 11 straight. The win also makes Head Coach, Landon Steele 11-1 all-time against his former teams he coached as he previously coached Northwest Kansas Tech now Fort Hays Tech Northwest.

The Conqs wasted no time taking control of the game flying out to a 17-0 lead and would lead 29-4 after the first quarter scoring 17 points off nine Tech turnovers in the quarter. The second quarter started with a 12-0 run by the Conqs to extend the lead which would be 53-9 at halftime. The second half would continue to see the Conqs shoot the ball well and the defense continue to stymie Tech as the Conqs surpassed the century mark for the second time this season and the eighth time under Coach Steele leading to a 104-28 win. The 76-point win marks the largest margin of victory for the Conqs under Coach Steele, while the 28 points scored by Tech are the lowest by an NJCAA opponent under Coach Steele and lowest by a Conqs opponent overall since the 2015-16 season (Richard Daley College scored 19 in Conqs 110-19 win on November 6th, 2015).

Offensively the Conqs shot 50.7% marking the eighth game this season shooting 50+% in a game and were 17-39 from three-point range with a season-high 27 assists in the game. Conqs dominated the boards outrebounding Tech 56-16 while defensively they held Tech to 19.6% shooting and 0-7 from three-point range and forced 25 turnovers.

Ten different Conqs scored on the night with six in double figures. Shorna Preston recorded her tenth double-double of the season finishing with 17 points on 7-12 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds while adding five steals. Layla-J Cameron chipped in 15 points with three rebounds and four assists. Savi Mi matched her career-high with 15 points on 5-5 shooting and 4-4 from the free throw line along with five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
