Win streak moves to 13-straight on the season and 10 in a row in KJCCC action as the Dodge City women's basketball team 83-58 on the road against Independence.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 15-1 on the season and a perfect 10-0 in KJCCC play, while it marks the seventh straight win over the Pirates of Independence.
It would be a slow start on the night, but the Conqs would lead 4-0 two and a half minutes in the contest before Independence got on the board with a pair of free throws. After getting to 6-2 it would remain that way until five minutes left in the first quarter when the Pirates made their first field goal, but the Conqs offense started to click working to a 17-9 advantage and the Conqs led 17-11 after the first quarter. A 12-0 run by the Conqs to open the second quarter gave the Conqs firm control going up 29-11 with just over five minutes left in the first half. The lead grew to as high as 22 with the Conqs taking a 42-20 lead into halftime.
The Conqs continued in the second half to keep the Pirates at bay and extend the lead, carrying a 60-36 lead into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter started with a 9-0 run by the Conqs as they would put the finishing touches on the night earning the 83-58 win on the road.
For the ninth time this season, the Conqs shot over 50% for the game, 52.1%, while holding Independence to 32.3%. The Conqs finished with 24 assists and only 11 turnovers while blocking eight shots.
Five players tallied double figures finishing with 15 points on 7-13 shooting to pace the Conqs was
Shorna Preston and added seven rebounds, two assists, four steals, and three blocks.
Morane Dossou had her best scoring performance as a Conq finishing with 13 points and grabbing seven rebounds.
Layla-J Cameron added 10 points, six rebounds, and three steals, while
Tayah Morgan finished with 10 points on 4-8 shooting.
Sofia Ahmed chipped in 10 points off the bench while adding six rebounds, two assists, four steals, and three blocks.
Ashley Lee also tallied a career-high nine points.
The Conqs will return to the east side of the state next week when they take on Coffeyville on Wednesday, January 15th, at 5:30 p.m.
