Riding a high after an upset win over #9 Cowley the Dodge City women's soccer team hit the road for a showdown against rival Garden City and despite falling behind early in the second half it would be two late goals to propel the Conquistadors to a 2-1 win.
The Conqs with the win move to 2-3-1 on the season and 2-2-1 in KJCCC action, while also marking the 16th straight match without a loss to Garden City.
The first half would be even with both teams getting off a few shots and neither team able to break through leading to a scoreless ballgame after the first 45 minutes of action. Six minutes into the second half Garden City would catch a bit of luck off a corner kick that was redirected by the face of a Broncbuster would net them a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute. The Conqs would pick up their opportunities and the possession the rest of the second half nearly breaking through several times but misfiring until the 74th minute when Meike Patzold tallied her second goal of the season to even the game.
The Conqs would push to grab the lead spraying the goal, but it wasn't until the 87th minute when
Mariam El Mir launched a shot from around 30 yards going top shelf to put the Conqs in front and ultimately lead to the 2-1 win.
In the second half, the Conqs would outshoot Garden City 12-4 and 17-10 in the match. Eight different Conqs recorded shots in the game with Patzold and El Mir each netting goals, while
Ana Ramirez-Cortes had five of saves in the matchup.
The Conqs look to continue to be road warriors in their next contest as they travel to Liberal to take on Seward County on Saturday, September 14th at 2:00 pm.
