Rivalry matchups usually lead to intense games and it was just that as Dodge City men's soccer hit the road to continue KJCCC action against rival Garden City and it would go down to the wire as the Conquistadors snagged a 3-2 win.
The win moves the Conqs to 2-4 on the season and 2-2 in KJCCC action, while also marking the tenth straight match without a loss to Garden City as Head Coach,
Juan Espinal and the Conqs topped form Conqs coach, Oscar Zelaya who now leads Garden City.
A tight first half would see the Conqs fall behind in the 24th minute of action as Garden City would tally the lone goal of the first half. Conqs would respond early in the second half as
Mikel Alvarez would net the Conqs first goal on an assist from
David Garcia to draw the matchup even at 1-1. Five minutes the Conqs would snag the lead for the first time on the day as
Soma Kanazawa posted his second goal of the season and Garcia tallied his second assist of the contest. Leading 2-1 the Conqs would look to hold off Garden City however the Broncbusters would draw even in the 84th minute to make it 2-2. Less than a minute later the Conqs would push back and appear to regain the lead on a shot that looked to be a goal but a foul would negate the potential goal leaving the match tied at 2-2. The Conqs' chances would not be done as they would earn a corner kick in the 88th minute and
Sergio Bravo would find
Cristobal Juan Berrios for a header the goal as the Conqs grabbed the lead 3-2 and ultimately the road win.
The Conqs would double up Garden City in shots for the matchup 19-8 and outshoot them 10-2 in the second half. Juan Berrios, Alvarez, and Kanazawa each netted a goal on the day, while Garcia had two assists and Bravo had one assist.
Geovanni De Luna tallied a pair of saves in the win.
