Volleyball Goes Five In Tough Loss On Road Versus Frank Phillips

Box Score For the third time this season in just five matches, the Dodge City volleyball team went five sets to decide the match's outcome as they took on Frank Phillips on the road. 
 
While the Conquistadors started the match strong it was ultimately Frank Phillips who snatched up the victory winning in five sets (25-14, 21-25, 25-18, 26-28, 13-15). The loss moves the Conqs to 1-4 on the season. The five-set battle is the 12th five set contest under Head Coach, Erin Mellinger for the Conqs. 
 
Tight early in the first set the Conqs got into a groove and would push out to a 14-8 advantage and would not look back expanding the lead to double figures to win the first set 25-14. The second set was a flip of the first as Frank Phillps was the one to find early separation working to a 12-6 lead that the Conqs were unable to overcome leading to a 25-21 second set in favor of Frank Phillips as the Conqs late flurry fell short. The Conqs rebounded in the third set to win in 25-21 and lead the match, but Frank Phillips would snatch the fourth set 28-26. In the fourth, the Conqs would fend off set point by Frank Phillips four times to stay alive before dropping the set. The fifth set would be tight until late when Frank Phillips built a slight lead that would be enough for them to take the set 15-13 and the match. 
 
In the loss, Arza Arslanoglu had a career-high 19 kills while adding eight digs, while Hayden Pinard recorded a double-double with 26 assists and 10 digs. Leisey Keli'i led the team in digs with 13 while adding two aces, and a kill. Agnes Hegardt tallied nine kills and four block assists, while Sila Yildiz chipped in six kills, two aces, and four block assists. Beatriz Lampugnani Cornachini recorded 11 digs and four kills. 
 
The Conqs are back in action quickly as they will have their first home action of the season hosting the Victory Electric Classic on August 29th-31st. The Conqs will play Thursday, August 29th at 7:30 pm versus Eastern Arizona, then will face off with Frank Phillips and Panola on Friday, August 30th at 10:30 am and 8:30 pm, before wrapping up the tournament on Saturday, August 31st against Midland at 7:30 pm.
