Women's Basketball Cruises Past Garden City to Advance to Region 6 Semifinals

Dodge City women's basketball looked well rested as they opened playoff action at home in the Region 6 quarterfinals against rival Garden City and would beat the Broncbusters 92-57 marking the largest margin of victory since the 1982-83 season over Garden City.

The win moves the Conqs to 26-5 on the season and caps the year at 12-1 at home as the Conqs are 38-5 at home under Head Coach, Landon Steele

After a slow start for both teams to start the game as it was only 4-2 Conquistadors after nearly the first three minutes, the Conqs started to grow their advantage working to a 12-5 lead in the first quarter. That lead was double figures by the end of the first quarter as Layla-J Cameron drained a three-pointer to make it 23-12 at the end of the first stanza. The lead would not stop growing for the Conqs as they continued to stymie Garden City offensively and would outscore the Broncbusters 22-12 in the second quarter to lead 45-24 at halftime. The third quarter was much of the same as the scoring party continued for the Conqs with 11 different Conqs scoring the night as they posted a 28-16 third quarter for the third straight frame of outscoring Garden City by double figures. The Conqs would shut the door of the Broncbusters season and take the game 92-57 to advance in the Region 6 tournament.

Conqs would shoot 45.2% from the floor and go 28-33 from the free throw line while Garden City shot just 34.5% from the floor only 3-14 from three-point range and was 14-18 from the charity stripe. The Conqs also notched 21 assists on 28 made field goals and forced 22 Broncbuster turnovers.

Cameron paced the Conqs with 20 points on 5-8 shooting and 7-8 from the free throw line adding three rebounds, three steals, and three assists. Paris Santacaterina added 19 points with six rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while Kyriana Jones chipped in 17 points on 6-9 shooting and 4-5 from the free throw line, adding four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Parris Atkins also had double figures with 11 points and had six rebounds and five assists.

The season continues for the Conqs as they gear up for a clash with Butler in the Region 6 Semifinals which will take place in Hutchinson at the Sports Arena on Friday, March 15th at 5:30 pm. With a win, the Conqs would turn around and play in the Region 6 Championship on Saturday, March 16th against the winner of Hutchinson versus Barton at 3:00 pm. (Purchase tickets here)
