Dodge City women's basketball did battle with Butler in the Region 6 Semifinals and a night of struggles offensively doomed the Conquistadors as they suffered a 65-52 loss.
The loss moved the Conqs to 26-6 on the season as the run in the Region 6 tournament came to an end in the semifinals.
It was a slow start for the Conqs as Butler raced out to a 7-0 lead just one and a half minutes into the contest. The Conqs would answer with a 9-1 run to take the lead at 9-8 with just over five minutes remaining in the first quarter but Butler finished the first quarter with five straight points to lead 13-9. Behind the play of Kyriana Jones, the Conqs jumped back in front as she notched a pair of layups and a three-pointer for an 8-0 Conq's run gave the Conqs a 17-13 lead early in the second quarter. Teams would trade buckets over the next stretch leading to a 22-22 tie with 3:46 left in the first half. Butler would finish the first half outscoring the Conqs 11-6 leading to a 33-26 halftime score. The shooting woes would continue for the Conqs in the second half as the Conqs were outscored 22-13 in the third quarter leading to a double-figure deficit for the Conqs. The Conqs would ultimately fall 65-52.
Conqs would hold Butler to just 33.3% shooting but struggled to find their shot, shooting just 25% from the floor.
Jones paced the Conqs with a double-double recording 19 points while grabbing 10 rebounds and adding three steals. Paris Santacaterina tallied nine points with six rebounds and three assists. Parris Atkins chipped in seven points, four rebounds, and five assists, while Shorna Preston had seven rebounds and six blocks in the loss.
