Dodge City women's basketball picked up their 20th win of the season cruising to a 91-72 road win over Cloud County. The win marks the second straight season with at least 20 wins giving the Conquistadors back-to-back 20-win seasons since 2004-05 and 2005-06.
With the win the Conqs moved to 20-3 on the season and 14-3 in KJCCC action, while also marking the sixth straight win over Cloud County in the series.
The Conqs jumped to early control leading 8-1 just over two minutes into the contest and that lead would grow all the way to 18-5 with three and half minutes left in the first quarter. At the end of the first the Conqs led 27-15 and after the first bucket of the second quarter, Cloud County would go on an 8-0 run to expand the lead. Cloud County countered with a 7-0 run of their own but the Conqs once again had an answer with a 12-0 spurt that was capped by a
Layla-J Cameron transition jumper. Leading 51-34 at halftime with the offense production spread out the Conqs would continue to maintain their big lead in the second half cruising to the 91-72 win.
The Conqs finished the contest shooting 47.1% from the floor and hit the third most threes in a game this season for themselves with 15, while also going 10-12 from the free throw line. While defensively the Conqs held Cloud County to 35.3% shooting while forcing 19 turnovers as they recorded a season-high 14 steals.
Four double-figure scorers led the Conqs on the night with 18 points from
Paris Santacaterina pacing the team. Santacaterina was 7-11 from the floor with 4-6 shooting along with four rebounds, five assists, and four steals.
Parris Atkins was 6-14 from the field for 16 points while adding two rebounds, two assists, and two steals on the night. Cameron tallied 16 points on 6-7 shooting including 4-5 from three-point range while adding five rebounds, three assists, two steals, and three blocks.
Kyriana Jones scored 12 points along with three rebounds, four steals, and two assists.
Flora Lukow added a career-high seven points off the bench in the second half.
The Conqs are back on the road again for their next KJCCC contest as they will travel to Arkansas City, Kansas to take on Cowley on Saturday, February 10th for a 2:00 pm tip.
