Dodge City women's basketball hit the road on Saturday, and it was a tough day shooting for the Conquistadors leading to a 78-65 road loss to Cowley.
The loss moves the Conqs to 20-4 on the season and 14-4 in KJCCC action with six regular season games remaining.
The Conqs fell behind early to the Cowley Tigers and it was early shooting woes by the Conqs that led the Tigers to take control early. Falling behind 20-11 after just the first quarter the lead would grow to double figures at 36-24 by halftime as the Conqs shot just 24.3% from the field in the first half. While it was still a struggle offensively in the second half the Conqs pushed head and drew within single digits early in the third quarter but ultimately trailed 53-40 heading into the fourth quarter. The Conqs dialed up the offense in the fourth early and earned a few extra possessions to cut the lead all the way down to 58-55 with 6:49 remaining. The three-point deficit would be the closest the Conqs were able to get as Cowley finished the game strong and secured the 78-65 victory.
In the loss, the Conqs shot under 35% from the field for just the second time this season and under 40% for only the fifth time this year connecting on just 30.4% of their shots. Conqs were also just 28.9% from three and 6-12 from the free throw line. Cowley would shoot 49.1% from the floor and were 20-32 from the free-throw line.

Layla-J Cameron added 14 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Shorna Preston added 15 points with five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks.
