Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Mike Smith

Men's Basketball Falls to Coffeyville on the Road

Dodge City men's basketball fell on the road despite a strong effort against Coffeyville dropping a KJCCC tilt 88-76.

The loss drops the Conquistadors to 9-19 on the season and 7-15 in KJCCC action pushing the Conqs down to ninth in the KJCCC standings with just two regular season games remaining. The loss also sends the Conqs to their sixth straight loss.

The Conqs would hold an early lead over the first couple minutes but after leading 4-2 Coffeyville would outscore the Conqs 22-5 over the next nine minutes. That run by the Red Ravens of Coffeyville would give them control as they led 24-9 with under 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Conqs managed to flip the script and put together a run of their own going on an 11-1 run to draw within five points at 25-20 with just over seven and half minutes left before halftime. A Jackson Swartz bucket would knot the game up at 30-30 but Coffeyville would string together a quick 7-0 spurt to regain control, however, the Conqs countered to finish the first half with a 9-2 run and head into halftime tied at 39-39. The second half would see the Conqs stay within striking distance, but Coffeyville would hold the lead and continually keep the Conqs at arm's length before extending their lead late to ultimately win by double figures as the Conqs fell 88-76.

In the loss, the Conqs shot 41.5% but was just 7-28 from three-point range and 15-26 from the free throw line, while Coffeyville shot 44.1%, made 12 three-pointers, and was 24-28 from the free throw line.

Chevalier "Ice" Emery paced the Conqs with 20 points on 7-16 shooting, while Jamari Gamble added 17 points on 6-11 shooting. Hunter Duncan contributed 15 points including 5-8 free throws along with eight rebounds, four assists, and our steals. Jackson Swartz added 10 points on 4-6 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds.

The Conqs will have their final home game of the regular season when they continue the season on Wednesday, February 28th at 7:30 pm against #2 Barton.
