Women's Basketball Grabs Another Win Beating Seward County

Dodge City women's basketball improved to 10-1 on the season at home after working past Seward County 74-63.

The Conquistadors improved to 23-4 on the season and 17-4 in KJCCC with three games remaining in the regular season. The Conqs locked up a first-round bye and quarterfinal home playoff game on Wednesday with their win and Coffeyville's loss to Garden City. The win also marks the third-straight against the Saints of Seward County.

It was a slow start to the night as the Conqs opened the evening ice cold from the floor falling behind 7-0 to open the game and then trailing 12-4 with all four points coming from the free-throw line. The Conqs' first bucket didn't come until just over three minutes remaining in the first quarter as Paris Santacaterina hit a three-pointer halting the Conqs' 0-14 start from the field. The Conqs would close the gap and behind a Layla-J Cameron three-pointer snag the lead at 17-16 at the end of the first quarter. Behind a 10-3 run to open the second stanza, the Conqs took a firmer grasp on the game to lead 27-19 and would head into halftime up 34-29. Seward County would draw within one point in the first minutes of the second half but the Conqs answered and would work the lead to double figures in the third quarter leading 54-42 entering the fourth quarter. The Conqs would work their way to their 23rd win of the season securing the 74-63 victory.

The Conqs would shoot 40.3% from the field while going 13-14 from the free throw line while holding Seward County to 33.3% shooting and just 6-27 from three-point range.

Parris Atkins led the Conqs with 18 points adding four rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Kyriana Jones chipped in 15 points with four rebounds. Santacaterina finished with 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and five steals. Cameron also tallied double figures with 14 points and seven rebounds.

Up next the Conqs take on Coffeyville on the road on Saturday, February 24th at 2:00 pm.
