Men's Basketball Drops KJCCC Tilt With Seward County

Dodge City men's basketball looking to change their fortunate hosted Seward County on Wednesday night and would unfortunately be unable to snag the win as the Saints secured the win late 80-75.

The Conquistadors with the loss fall to 9-18 on the season and 7-14 in KJCCC with only three games remaining in the regular season.

The Conqs would fall behind 10-5 over the first three minutes of action but would keep it close and take their first lead at 18-17 on a Tyler Williams dunk with just over 13 minutes remaining in the first half. Baskets would be traded back and forth for the rest of the first half with the Conqs working their largest advantage to five but would settle for the 40-39 lead at halftime. A quick 4-0 run to open the second half drew Seward County to within one at 44-43 but an Avnoor Bhullar jumper pushed the lead back out to three. Saints would again mount another run this time an 8-0 run to lead 51-46. That lead would grow to as high as nine during the second half and would remain with Seward County until the Conqs tied the contest at 69-69 with just around six and half minutes left. It would remain tight down the stretch and the Conqs would have a chance to tie or take the lead a few times in the final minute but fall short dropping the contest 80-75.

In the loss, the Conqs shot 46.2% and hit 10 three-pointers but Seward County countered by shooting 40.3% themselves and 20-22 of the free-throw line. The Saints also controlled the boards as they outrebounded the Conqs 43-26.

Bhullar led the Conqs on the night with 17 points with two rebounds and three assists, while Jamari Gamble chipped in 14 points with five rebounds. Chevalier "Ice" Emery tallied 16 points going 4-9 from three-point range and Jackson Swartz scored 10 points and added five rebounds and two blocks.

The Conqs are back on the road against Coffeyville on Saturday, February 24th for a 4:00 pm tip to continue the season.
