Dodge City women's basketball hit the road in KJCCC action and picked up the 86-72 victory over Independence.

The win moves the Conquistadors to 18-3 on the season and 12-3 in KJCCC action, while also earning their sixth straight win over the Pirates of Independence in the series.Â

The Conqs wasted no time taking control of the contest as an early 12-0 run in the first quarter helped the Conqs grab a 14-3 lead. The lead would give the Conqs a 25-17 advantage after the first quarter of action. The second quarter would see the Conqs push the lead back to double figures and take a double-digit lead at 45-33 into halftime.
Parris Atkins opened the second half on a 5-0 run by herself for the Conqs to extend the lead to 17 over the Pirates. Growing the lead to as high as 20 points the Conqs held a 71-52 lead after three quarters of action. The Pirates closed the gap a bit to open the fourth quarter, but the Conqs would secure the lead and the game cashing in on an 86-72 win.Â

Offensively the Conqs shot 42.1%, while hitting 11 three-pointers and went 11-13 from the free-throw line, while also having 21 assists on 32 made field goals. The Pirates shot just 39.1% from the field on the night, while the Conqs won the rebounding battle 50-36.Â

A career-high 27 points by Atkins led the charge for the Conqs on the night as she added eight rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a block.
Layla-J Cameron contributed 17 points with eight rebounds and four assists, while
Paris Santacaterina chipped in a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, along with five assists and five steals.
Kyriana Jones tallied 11 points and added four rebounds and two assists.Â
