Dodge City women's basketball extended their win streak to nine in a row as they used another strong second half to propel themselves past Seward County 66-48.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 11-1 on the season and 6-0 in KJCCC action, while also marking the fourth straight win over the Saints of Seward County in the series.
The game was tight early with neither team leading by more than three until a three-pointer by
Shorna Preston gave the Conqs a 15-11 lead with just over four minutes left in the first quarter. The Conqs push the lead to seven by the end of the first quarter getting a late layup by
Mia Jordan who cap the first 10 minutes leading 23-16. In the second stanza, Seward County would tighten things up and even tie the contest at 32-32 late in the first half but a
Konstantina Mantziori layup and free throw gave the Conqs a 35-32 advantage at halftime.
The second half opened with a 7-0 run by the Conqs to take a firm grasp on the lead and go up 42-32 on a
Savi Mi layup. Conqs ultimately outscored Seward County 18-6 in the third quarter and 31-16 in the second half to snag the 66-48 victory at home over the Saints.
Conqs finished the day shooting 43.9% from the field while holding Seward County to just 27.4% shooting.
Tayah Morgan led the Conqs with 16 points on 6-11 shooting adding five rebounds, while
Layla-J Cameron chipped in 13 points and grabbed six rebounds. Preston added 11 points on 4-8 shooting. Mantziori had a strong day with nine points on 4-8 shooting along with six rebounds and eight assists. Mi contributed nine points on 4-4 shooting, while
Morane Dossou had four points and eight rebounds, and Jordan added four points, seven rebounds, and tied her career high with seven blocks.
The Conqs are set to host Barton on Saturday, December 14th at 1:00 pm for the final game before the holiday break.
