Women's Basketball Picks Up 10-straight Win Beating Barton

Into the holiday break goes the Dodge City women's basketball team on a 10-game winning streak after a 92-55 win over Barton. 

The Conquistadors with the victory improved to 12-1 on the season and 7-0 in KJCCC action. Conqs also moved to 5-0 at home on the season along with picking up their fifth straight win over Barton in the series with the Cougars. 

Before the ball was tipped the Conqs went up 1-0 on a free throw due to a number change that was not communicated by Barton prior to the game. The Conqs would go up 6-0 before Barton got on the board two minutes into the contest. Nearly five minutes into the matchup a Layla-J Cameron layup gave the Conqs a double-figure lead at 15-4 and the Conqs didn't look back. Conqs would lead 21-11 after the first 10 minutes of action and while the second quarter was sluggish by both teams the Conqs ultimately extended the lead to 40-25 at halftime. 

The second half opened with a 13-1 run by the Conqs over the first six minutes of the third quarter and the Conqs continued to dominate the third quarter this season outscoring Barton 28-7 to lead 69-32. The Conqs put the finishing touches on the contest and earned the 92-55 win recording another double figure KJCCC win. 

For the seventh time this season, the Conqs shot over 50% in a contest shooting 52.4%, knocking down 12 three-pointers and dishing out 21 assists. Defensively the Conqs held Barton to just 34.6% shooting including 5-22 from three-point range and forced 26 turnovers getting 15 steals. 

Cameron paced the Conqs with 19 points on 7-10 shooting and 3-3 free throws while adding six rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Shorna Preston finished with 16 points on 7-11 shooting adding six rebounds, four assists, six steals, and two blocks. Konstantina Mantziori matched her career-high with 15 points with four rebounds, two assists, and five steals. Savi Mi chipped in 13 points going 5-6 from the field including 3-3 from three-point range. 

The Conqs will be back in action when the calendar flips to 2025 as they will travel to Goodland to take on Fort Hays Tech Northwest on Saturday, January 4th.
