Volleyball Sweeps Hutchinson in First Round of Playoffs to Advance to Semifinals

Box Score For the third straight year, the Dodge City volleyball team will be playing in the Semifinals of the playoffs after sweeping Hutchinson 3-0 in the first round of the NJCAA Division I Plains District playoffs at home. 

The Conquistadors picked up a convincing win over the Blue Dragons 25-21, 25-16, 25-11 for the first-ever sweep in the series of Hutchinson in rally scoring era, while also making it four-straight wins over the Blue Dragons. The win moves the Conqs to 21-13 on the season and into the District Semifinals where they will face off with Colby at 6:30 pm on Saturday, November 9th in Great Bend as Barton will host the remainder of the playoffs as the highest seed. Barton will take on Garden City in the other Semifinal contest. 

The Conqs jumped out front early in the first set leading 10-6 leading to a Hutchinson timeout. The lead would hold serve for the Conqs despite the Blue Dragons drawing within one at 15-14 and then at 22-21, but the Conqs closed out the first set on a 3-0 run to grab it 25-21. It was a blistering hot start to the second set for the Conqs going up 6-1 and the lead would only continue to grow as the Conqs cruised to the second set win 25-16. In the third set, the Conqs again establish control early taking advantage going up 15-8 after a successful challenge and then taking the third set 25-11 to earn the win. 

A double-double by Azra Arslanoglu helped pace the Conqs in the win as she had 13 kills on a .281 hitting percentage adding 10 digs. Beatriz Lampugnani Cornachini finished with nine kills on a .238 hitting percentage along with 16 digs. Leisey Keli'i was strong at libero on the back end with 20 digs, while Hayden Pinard finished with 37 assists and seven digs. Agnes Hegardt helped set the tone early and finished with eight kills and six block assists. 

The Conqs are back in action in the Semifinals on Saturday, November 9th at 6:30 pm against Colby as the game will be held in Great Bend.
