Dodge City men's basketball hit the road for a big true road game test against #10 Indian Hills a place where the Conquistadors took the Warriors to overtime two years ago. This time around the Conqs would challenge Indian Hills early but the Warriors pushed the lead to double figures and would grab the game convincingly, 91-61.
The Conqs would open the contest with a layup by
Jayse Boatwright, but the Warriors countered with an 8-0 run. Behind eight points from
Keshawn Brown Jr. the Conqs were back into the contest with a 10-2 run of their own and would even the game up at 13-13 and then grab a 15-14 lead with 9:25 remaining in the first half. The game would be tied up at 17-17 but Indian Hills would outscore the Conqs 20-5 to finish out the first half leading to a 37-22 score at halftime. Indian Hills opened the second half continuing their run with a 17-7 stretch and the Conqs were battling uphill the rest of the way falling 91-61 on the road.
The Conqs shot just 31.5% in the loss but were 22-28 from the free-throw line while outrebounding Indian Hills 45-37. Indian Hills would shoot 45.6% from the field and go 12-30 from three-point range, while turnovers plagued the Conqs, with 25 in the contest.
Brown led the Conqs with 18 points going 8-9 from the free-throw line and grabbing three rebounds.
Jamari Gamble finished with a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while
Kyle Burns added 10 points and five rebounds.
Conqs travel to Sedalia, Missouri, for the State Fair Classic for more non-conference action. They will take on Moberly Area and State Fair on Friday and Saturday, November 15th and 16th, at 5:00 and 6:00 pm respectively.
