Dodge City women's basketball team bounced back from the tough loss to New Mexico with a 40-point beatdown of Frank Phillips to wrap up the Odessa Classic in Texas. All three Conquistador wins on the season have come by 30+ points.
Tight for the first couple of minutes, the Conqs would double up Frank Phillips at 18-9 just three and a half minutes into the contest. The lead would grow to 25-9 as three-pointers and buckets continued to fall for the Conqs throughout the first quarter going on to lead 34-16 after the first ten minutes. The Conqs netted eight three-pointers in just the first quarter of action. The big lead just continued to grow over the course of the game as the Conqs led 52-27 at halftime and would outscore Frank Phillips 26-17 in the third quarter and 19-13 in the fourth to earn the 97-57 win.
The Conqs shot 50% from the field marking the third game out of four the Conqs have shot 50% or better from the field. The Conqs would tally 22 assists on 33 made field goals which included 22 made three-pointers. Conqs also grabbed 50 rebounds and recorded eight blocks in the win.
Layla-J Cameron continued her hot start to the season finishing 16 points on 6-9 shooting including 4-7 three-pointers.
Shorna Preston recorded her third double-double of the season with 17 points on 6-10 shooting including 3-6 from three-point range and grabbed 12 rebounds while adding four assists.
Konstantina Mantziori tallied 12 points on 4-6 shooting, while
Savi Mi chipped in 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Becca Unruh and
Morane Dossou each added 11 points as Dossou posted a double-double with 11 rebounds.
The win moves the Conqs to 3-1 on the season as they will continue non-conference play with a trip to Scottsbluff, Nebraska on November 15th-16th to compete at the Western Nebraska Classic to take on Eastern Wyoming and Laramie County.
