Box Score Dodge City women's basketball continued to shoot the ball well to start the 2024-25 season as they picked up another victory by a wide margin beating Eastern Wyoming 94-51.
Conquistadors jumped out to a 6-0 start but then Eastern Wyoming countered to tighten up the contest early at 8-6 at the media timeout with 3:35 left in the first quarter. Out of the timeout, the Conqs would finish the first quarter on a 12-0 run to lead 20-6 and then stretch that run to a 22-0 run to start the second quarter, guiding them to a 46-23 lead at halftime. The second half opened just as the game did with a 6-0 run by the Conqs and the lead would continue to grow as the Conqs outscored Eastern Wyoming 29-8 in the third quarter. The Conqs put the finishing touches on the contest to secure the 94-51 victory.
The Conqs shot better than 50% again from the field (51.6%) and hit 13 three-pointers while going 15-19 from the free-throw line. Defensively, the Conqs held Eastern Wyoming to 38.2% shooting while winning the rebounding battle 44-29 and forcing 19 turnovers.
A quartet of Conqs tallied double figures in the win with
Tayah Morgan leading the way with 17 points and four assists.
Shorna Preston recorded another double-double with 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while adding five assists. Off the bench,
Savi Mi finished with 13 points and
Becca Unruh contributed 10 points, while
Mia Jordan and
Layla-J Cameron each finished with nine points and five rebounds each.
The win moves the Conqs to 4-1 on the season. They wrapped up non-conference action on Saturday against Laramie County.
