Volleyball Falls Just Short in Five Set Battle with #7 Colby

The Dodge City volleyball squad squared off with #7 Colby in the final regular season home KJCCC contest. While the Conquistadors pushed the Trojans of Colby, as the match went five sets, Colby earned the victory.

The Conqs would see Colby win the match (25-23, 12-25, 25-23, 24-26, 15-12) which moves the Conqs to 19-13 on the season and 10-5 in KJCCC action with one final regular season game left.

Tight early to start the night the first set was back-and-forth to a 14-14 tie in the set but Colby went on a 3-0 run to lead 17-14 leading to the Conqs calling a timeout. The Conqs would tie it up late in the first at 22-22 but Colby responded with the next two points and grabbed the first set 25-23. The second set was dominated by the Conqs jumping up 7-2 early and turning that into a 14-6 advantage and then an 18-8 lead on the way to claiming the second set 25-12. The third set was nearly a mirror image of the first set unfolding the same way and with the same set score as Colby won it 25-23. In the fourth set, the Conqs trailed 12-5 and 16-9 but didn't give up pushing back to tie it at 21-21 and then took a 23-21 lead. Colby then went on a 3-0 run to lead 24-23 and had a match point but the Conqs would score three straight points to win the set 26-24. Conqs would play their ninth five-set contest of the season, and it was tight in the fifth until Colby went on a small run to lead 12-9 and would use that lead to earn the win with a 15-12 fifth set.

In the loss, Azra Arslanoglu recorded 11 kills and 11 digs for a double-double, while Amariah White, Rayssa Da Silva, and Agnes Hegardt each tallied six kills. Leisey Keli'i finished with 18 digs on the evening, while at setter, Hayden Pinard posted 13 digs and 36 assists.

The regular season wraps up for the Conqs on Wednesday, October 30th when the Conqs will travel to Liberal to take on Seward County at 6:30 pm. The Conqs with a win will lock in a third-place finish in the KJCCC, while they are assured no worse than fourth place in the conference.
